Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Early Childhood Development and Pre-Primary Education

Introduction

This bachelor degree aims to produce qualified teachers and educaters with advanced and comprehensive expertise in ECD and PPE. The programme expects to produce enthusiastic graduates who understand, value, and respect children’s diversity as well innovative, patient graduates with a good sense of humour. In addition, the programme expects to produce influential ECD & PPE teachers and educarers as well as competent and qualified ECD and PPE leaders and managers. The B. Ed (Hons) in Early Childhood Development and Pre-primary Education allows the students to reflect on the practical experience as they study, and during their teaching career.

Objectives and Target Groups

Increase the student’s knowledge of the holistic development of the young child;
• provide the students with effective teaching and learning strategies and experiences to comfortably face and cope with the challenging new demands in early childhood settings;
• foster the student’s understanding, sensitivity, and appreciation of culture and environment related to child rights, care, health and safety, and nutrition;
• enhance students’ research skills in conducting educational research;
• provide the students with opportunities to gain knowledge and in-depth understanding of the latest issues affecting early
childhood education, teacher education, research, and ethics;
• provide the students with the opportunity to apply what they learned while gaining real experience through school-based
studies placements in the appropriate learning environments to teach children from zero to six years old; and
• understand the child’s developmental stages and milestones

Course open for

This programme is open to all qualifying prospective students wishing to advance their teaching career in Early Childhood Development and Pre-primary Education. To be admitted to the B. Ed (Hons) in Early Childhood Development and Pre-primary Education study programme, students must meet the minimum entry requirements of NAMCOL as stated below.

Admission Requirements

Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood and Junior Primary Education for Ages 3 to Grade 3 – (Level 7) or equivalent; or
• A Diploma in Early Childhood Development and Pre-Primary Education (DECPPE) offered by NAMCOL (Level 6) plus a minimum of three years teaching experience;
• Candidates who do not meet the entry requirements mentioned above may register for the Bachelor’s Degree in Early
Childhood and Junior Primary Education (Level 7) offered by NAMCOL. Those who complete the degree successfully will
be eligible candidates for the B. Ed (Hons) in Early Childhood Development and Pre-primary Education (Level 8) Programme.

Fee Structure

SEMESTER 1
Registration fee is N$2690.00, which should be paid upon registration, the remaining amount should be settled by May 31. The once-off 690.00 data fee is charged with registation for 10G of data each month for the whole year

SEMESTER 2
Registration fee is N$2000.00, which should be paid upon registration, The remaining amount should be settled by 30 September.
